the living room candidate

I was searching the web for streaming video of an old McDonald's commercial my Expository students were talking about in our online discussion. Google took me to the American Museum of the Moving Image, where I found a fascinating online exhibit instead. It's The Living Room Candidate, which bears the following description:

"The Living Room Candidate traces the history of presidential campaign commercials from their beginnings in 1952 to the present. More than 180 digitized commercials are presented in their entirety, along with analysis, historical background, and results from each election."

The exhibit features multiple subsections, which include "Looking Presidential" and "Attack Ads." There's also a section on "The Desktop Candidate," which examines presidential campaign websites and parodies thereof. (Unfortunately, most of the links to those sites are broken - which stands to reason. Who wants to maintain a site when the campaign is over? Too bad the AMMI folks didn't archive them.)
