The Chronical of Higher Education on the proliferation of colons in academic titles.

When I began the revision process for an article of mine that just came out, I was specifically told, in bold, all-caps, "NON-COLONIC TITLES ONLY."

I felt like I was amputating my own arm, after having been trained for years and years to include colons in my titles. But after I got used to it, I found myself more and more avoiding the colonic title, and so the last few papers I've delivered at conferences have had non-colonic titles. I've found that, at least for me, such titles lend themselves less to jargon.
