My son played in a baseball tournament there a few years ago. Indeed, the town is Peculiar. Around KC, it's always mentioned with its neighbor, Raymore. The school district, for example, is called Raymore-Peculiar, or Ray-Pec for short. More trivia: they celebrate "Bushwacker" Days (which probably doesn't refer to the Prez, although Clinton, Missouri is not far away...to the South).
