Peculiar, MO

The little town of Peculiar, Missouri is along the freeway route between Little Rock and Saint Paul. As one might suspect, the name makes for wonderful signage.

My son played in a baseball tournament there a few years ago. Indeed, the town is Peculiar. Around KC, it's always mentioned with its neighbor, Raymore. The school district, for example, is called Raymore-Peculiar, or Ray-Pec for short. More trivia: they celebrate "Bushwacker" Days (which probably doesn't refer to the Prez, although Clinton, Missouri is not far away...to the South). This link sets up the town's label as a problem of namelessness: http://www.casscounty.com/peculiar.htm

I love it! I keep thinking that I'll take the camera along and take photos of churches in succession. (En route to the U, there are FOUR, lined up in a row, like turtles on a log.)
