forcing
I've always been a stick-it-in-the-ground-and-see-what-happens gardener, when I'm a gardener at all. In our last Arkansas apartment, I grew aloe, rosemary and a begonia in an extremely lackadaisical manner. Up here, I've apparently shifted to some sort of Precision Growing Mode - hence the carnivores and a couple of other finicky things that I assumed would die but haven't. It must be time to investigate forcing bulbs.
Where I'm from, spring comes in early March. Here, I'm given to understand that it doesn't come until sometime May-ish. I'm not particularly worried enduring the cold (although perhaps I should be), but I'm pretty sure the length of the winter will make me crazy. Forcing bulbs seems like a good way to combat this, assuming I can make it work. Today, I bought three types of tulips, hyacinths, narcissus, and muscari on sale at Linder's. Now I'm doing the research* and linking it here so I can remember where things are:
