In case anybody wants to know, caterpillar parts do not work as venus flytrap food. Disgustingness ensues about a week after feeding. I shall try ant eggs next.
And the SuperTarget on Lexington has some gorgeous cobra lilies for $10 a pot. Go figure.

OK, here's the gory details:
Even though I fed each trap only one small section of caterpillar, that was apparently too much food for the flytrap to digest efficiently. The undigested caterpillar parts rotted inside the traps, which in turn caused the traps to turn black and begin to die. After it became apparent that they weren't going to recover, I amputated the afflicted traps and threw the rest of the can of caterpillars outside for the birds.
