God forbid ...
... that I do anything the easy way. Everyone else in my IP seminar is lecturing on a relevant text for their presentation. So am I, but the text ended up being Hail! Hail! Rock n Roll!, which means that I’m sitting here ripping clips from DVDs and converting them to QuickTime files and figuring out iMovie, which is extremely intuitive except when it isn’t. (I thought I could do the whole thing in Keynote, which allows insertion of video files, but no. The Apple library system, which I normally love, won’t let me transfer my edited clips.) And I need to convert some mp3 files and find a clip of Muddy Waters. And and and.
And what I really need to be doing is working on my seminar paper, which I’m really interested in and can never seem to actually get to.
I take some comfort in the fact that there are only three weeks left, but that comfort is negated by the corollary fact that all this stuff has to be done in less than three weeks. ’Tis the season for grad student meltdowns.

Hey Krista- I'm thinking of getting an Apple instead of a new PC, is that a good idea?
Also, come but and check out my Bush - Lincoln comparison.
Hope Dorothea is OK

It really depends on your needs. I was previously a diehard PC user, and I bought my 12-inch G4 because I needed a laptop for campus and wanted to “speak” both platforms. I’ve become very fond of the little Mac, mostly because it just works. PCs require fiddling. Also, while I could do stuff like video editing and whatnot on the PC, I probably wouldn’t bother because it’s just more complicated. The iLife suite is good stuff.
I’d say if you’re interested, then take the plunge. It’ll feel funky at first, but it gets better, especially if you start doing new things that you were afraid to do on a PC. I’m not currently about to ditch my PC, but I could possibly foresee a future when I’m all-Mac.
