summer inventory

What I did with my summer vacation, in roughly chronological order:

  • Slept. I rarely (if ever) set an alarm clock over the past three months.
  • Made progress on my reading list. But not enough.
  • Mister Husband quit smoking. This is not, strictly speaking, something I did, but there were about two weeks where both of us did nothing but pursue the project of his Quitting. Not complaining: it’s completely worth it, and he’s certainly been the one who’s done the heavy lifting.
  • Published my first book review, along with several smart colleagues.
  • Taught a 14 week online section of our 3000-level course in Technical and Professional Communication.
  • Wrote an online annotated bibliography on wikis to fulfill an incomplete.
  • Learned to bake bread and otherwise work with yeast.
  • Visited with my best friend G., who came up for a week.
  • Completely freaked out about planning a wedding. Revised theories about what weddings should be.
  • Designed a ring, picked a dress, wrote some vows.
  • Got married and honeymooned.
  • Wrote a short paper that will be published in conference proceedings and a white paper this fall.
  • Made a new friend, I think.
  • Went on the Summer 2005 Kennedy-Ward Center Sectional Tour, which took us through Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, and South Dakota. Spent six days with our families in the middle of it. Saw some wonderful old friends. Met Lynn. Met Bobbi.
  • Pretty well completed rehab with the ankle — going up and down stairs normalized about two weeks ago. Was officially released from physical therapy two days ago, and told to come back for one more checkup on my surgery anniversary.
  • Sold a bunch of books on half.com, which changed my ideas about internet businesses and made me wonder what there is to be written about sites like half.com and ebay.
  • Discovered weekly trips to the Farmer’s Market, and decided that I’ll keep going during the school year (until the season closes) because it makes me a little more sane.
  • Decided that I’m really looking forward to turning 30 next year. I think I’ve done just about everything I needed to do in my 20’s.

Comments

Farmers' Markets are awesome.

Yesterday we made gazpacho with (almost) all fresh ingredients we had bought that morning.

That's a pretty impressive list! Way to go!

You sure did get a lot of stuff done! Talk about life-changing. I'm assuming most of your summers aren't quite this exciting?? And I hope I count as a new friend! :)
