redhead related

Yesterday’s entry at If... reminded me about current research in the field. I’ve been meaning to order a copy of The Roots of Desire: The Myth, Meaning, and Sexual Power of Red Hair. Raymond also points out the Wikipedia entry on Red Hair, which is quite thorough.

Also to look into: Jo(e) informed me during our Not Coffee that there are far more redheads in Disney movies than one would think. Ariel probably most commonly comes to mind, but the first one I thought of was Medusa from The Rescuers. That movie started my lifelong dream of driving a Villainess Car (which criteria the Kia Sportage certainly does not meet).

I'm thinking fabulous red hair calls out for a sleek, sexy car...a thunderbird? Perhaps in baby blue, to set off the red hair? It has to be a convertible, of course, so that you can wear a nifty scarf (I won't need one) and big sunglases and fabulous driving gloves and BE SEEN. I'm more of a combination practical/fun to drive kinda redhead: a convertible Mini, perhaps. You? A restored 1950s car? An original Tbird, mayhaps? A 1956 in black and white?

I’ve always had a thing for restored 50's cars and trucks. I blame this on my teenage MacGyver addiction (because MacGyver always drove restored cars) as well as my lifelong love for Disney villainesses. There’s not a lot on the Net about Cruella De Vil’s car, but it turns out there are quite a few pins that feature it.

Update: Wikipedia does mention it, but only to point out that her car was not a Panther de Ville, which was introduced 12 years after the film.

I came across your blog after typing my name into google. I am a fellow "Krista" and have red hair as well. I have heard a lot about this book and plan to read it as soon as I can get myself to the store. Good blog! I may be back to visit again.
