This reminds me of the 2007 movie "Music and Lyrics," with Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore. It got trashed but I rented it for a buck from my local McDonald's RedBox anyway and thought it was adorable. Grant plays a wash-up from an 80s Duran-Duran-like band, Pop!, and the movie starts with the band's music video, which is about the same quality as this one.
