new home(s)

Well, here we are. I'm newly ensconced in the upstairs study of The Cohabitat. It has a view that I'm strangely taken with: an eve with a window, a mostly bare courtyard, and a sniper's angle into several people's back patios and porches. Plus a bunch of sky and a fair amount of green.

Perhaps part of this fascination comes from the fact that I've lived in single-story houses my whole life. As a bookworm child, I always dreamt of a quiet, upstairs room for reading and writing. Preferably with trees. Now I have finally have it, even if only for the year until I move away to another school. It's a good room. I feel like I can get to work in here. This is my thesis-writing perch.

I've also moved to a new host. What was meant to be a short hiatus stretched longer because of problems with my previous host, so it seemed like as good a time as any to move. I've lost about ten days of entries, but other than everything survived intact. The emails from kind readers have been much appreciated, and I've actually felt sort of missed during the month I've been gone. Many thanks to everyone who wrote.

So what else has been going on around here? Settling into living here. Teaching Comp I and Nonfiction Writing on the web. Writing a thesis proposal. Taking Rhetorical Theory. Family stuff. Looking forward to the Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival. Wondering what-all has been happening in the blogosphere, which I've felt oddly disconnected from.

It feels good to be back. We'll see what happens next.

A good room is everything, as Ms. Woolf said, of course.
I had one, in a women's boarding house in Madison, WI, about 25 yrs. ago that still makes me smile. My kingdom for those bay windows again.
Glad to see you back.

Housewifey? Surely you jest, bobbi.

If that happened I'd need to find a new roommate.
